European football must be the target for Fulham

Fulham gained promotion to the EPL after defeating Aston Villa in the 2018 EFL Championship playoff final. Since then they have recruited 13 new players (5 loans). Their recruitment’s have taken them to over €100Million spending being the first newly promoted team to spend that high. They have managed to recruit highly rated players in Seri, Anguissa, Vietto, Sergio Rico.  Other players include Maxime Marchand, Fabricio, Schurrle, Mitrovic, Chambers, Joe Bryan, Fosu-Mensah, Calum Chambers.

Slaviša Jokanovic (Fulham manager) was without some of his new signings as they fell to Crystal Palace at home in their first league game. He set up his side, playing 4-3-3 formation, their wonder kid Ryan Sessegnon played at Left Wing. Jokanovic will have his full squad as they travel to play Tottenham on Saturday in their second league game. With the players they brought in, some has a lot to prove and regain their glory in the eye of Europe elite. With the caliber of players, I expect them to finish in the top half of the table, and dare I say qualify for Europa League.

The key players in their squad will be the strikers Mitrovic/Vietto, the number of goals they are able to convert and their midfield will need to work double in creating enough chances for the front men. The whole English supporters will see more of Ryan Sessegnon and what he can offer, also all eyes will be on Jean Seri (who was close to joining Barcelona & PSG last summer) to be the key player in the middle, distributing and controlling the tempo of their play to enable them play to the instructions of the manager.

I expect Anguissa(DM), Rico (GK), Alphie Mawson (CB), Fosu-Mensah(RB) to enter their starting XI with Marchand moving to Left Back., the decision lies in the hands of the coach, they have a huge squad and they will look to utilize it to the fullest. The coach can shuffle between playing 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 , he has players who can adapt to various formation changes in the squad.

Expected lineup (4-4-2): With this lineup they can take advantage of the attacking and defensive capability of Sessegnon and Schurrle, with Vietto playing as the supporting striker behind Mitrovic, with Anguissa and Seri holding the midfield and protecting the defensive line.

Fosu-Mensah    Chambers      Mawson     Marchand/Bryan

Schurrle              Anguissa     Seri               Sessegnon

Other possible lineups:

Fosu-Mensah    Chambers     Mawson    Marchand/Bryan

Tom Cairney                 Anguissa               Seri

Schurrle                         Mitrovic                   Sessegnon.

Fosu-Mensah  Chambers   Mawson   Marchand/Bryan

                             Anguissa   Seri

 Schurrle             Cairney/Vietto       Sessegnon

Fulham is the team I am most excited to watch going into the new season (among the newly promoted sides) in the premiership, I think if they can find their form and the coach finds the right formation and system to get them playing good football and winning games but its not always that plain and straight forward. I hope the players can click and adapt well and their back 4 can be solid enough to avoid conceding silly goals (newly promoted teams are known for that). This season promises to be a great one.

  1. Fulham have made good signings this transfer window ,they’ve gotten themselves relatively good players that would definitely help them remain in the premier league and possibly qualify for European competition next season. Hopefully the manager gets it right and they don’t end up crashing everyone’s hope.
